Warriors Fight Back Into Form against Crowthorne Cougars
Vectis Warriors had a lot to prove after two away defeats when they squared up to a home game against Crowthorne Cougars on Sunday.
The Warriors were smarting after losing two games to Team Underground 12-4 and Ferndown Falcons 8-3 and they knew it was time to put in a good performance against the Crowthorne Cougars.
Warriors started the stronger with Barry Downer making a quality pass through to Dean Brett to open the scoring, which was closely followed by two goals by Jonathan Cass, assisted by Michael Squibb and Adie Lusted.
The visitors then put the Warriors' defence under pressure and replied with two goals in two minutes to make it 3-2 to the Warriors at the end of the first period.
In the second period, the Warriors only scored once through Downer but conceded two, to finish 4-4 going into the final 20 minutes.
The Warriors came out fired up and scored two quick goals through Michael Palin and Lusted. Although the Crowthorne Cougars pulled one back, Squibb restored the Islanders' advantage.
However, Crowthorne Cougars scored twice in a minute to level again. The Warriors regrouped and put some great plays together and Palin scored three times with only one in reply to give them a 10-8 victory.
