Mayor brings Christmas cheer to Crowthorne

Crowthorne was dazzled with Christmas cheer on Friday evening when the Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest launched late-night shopping in the village.

Bracknell Forest Mayor, Cllr Clifton Thompson, and Mayoress, Sue Thompson, welcomed shoppers in Crowthorne High Street to a host of festive entertainment to mark the beginning of pre-Christmas late-night shopping.

Carol singers, the Hatch Ride Primary School choir, street entertainers and a variety of yuletide food and drink brought the High Street to life.

As well as welcoming shoppers to the annual late-night shopping event Cllr Thompson also presented prizes to primary schoolchildren who had entered a poster competition - where they had to design posters to advertise late-night shopping.

Cllr Thompson, who spent time talking to staff and Crowthorne traders and looking at the festive decorations in the village, said: "It was a great pleasure to meet so many people at the late night shopping event on Friday evening. It was unfortunate that the weather was so bad on Friday evening but even the wind and rain couldn't dampen everyone's spirits.

"Crowthorne looked wonderful and very festive and I had a great time listening to the carols and taking a good look at what gifts are on offer in the High Street this year."
