Music on Fire! is the UK’s most spectacular outdoor event – a stunning blend of live popular and classical music, thousands of thrilling and unique fireworks and a magical Son et Lumiere.

The unmissable event will once again be held in the exclusive setting of The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and guests will be invited to picnic on the lawn in front of the Old College as they enjoy the show. The theme for this year’s event is War and Peace, with the audience being taken on a journey from the creation of the world, right through to Armageddon.

The fireworks and musical spectacular was first staged in 2004 and is co-ordinated by Major Sir Michael Parker, the man behind the Golden Jubilee celebrations at Buckingham Palace.

Tickets are priced from £27.50 and available through http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk by calling 0870 606 3473.

Frantic finale for Sandhurst Fizzers

Sandhurst complete their season this week with the staggering task of playing four games in six days.

Following last night's Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy final with Didcot Town, the Sandhurst Fizzers line-up in the Aldershot Cup final tomorrow (Friday) before completing their last three league games.

It is sure to be a testing period for Pete Browning's men and the manager is convinced their punishing schedule could have been avoided.

He said: "I said recently when we had two weeks without a game that the schedule could have been changed around.

"It's stupid how it's turned out but we have to accept it and try and do the best that we can.

"I suppose in a way we're the victims of our own success as we've done so well in the cup competitions.

"The lads are young and fit and a week after the season we're all off to Magaluf so we can put our feet up there."

Friday's final with Hellenic Division One East side Badshot Lea will be held at Aldershot FC, something that Browning admits will not help his weary-legged players.

He said: "It's a massive pitch, one of the biggest in the country which won't really help but it's the same for both teams.

"They've done very well to get here, and have also got a lot of games during the run-in so they will be on their last legs as well."

Sandhurst then complete their league campaign with games at Farnham Town on Saturday and Reading Town on Monday before welcoming champions Godalming to Yorktown Road on Wednesday.

Browning added: "We've still got stuff to play for in the league,we can move up a couple of places so we want to finish as well as we can.

"We've got a reasonably good sized squad so I will be mixing and matching as well as I can and take each game as it comes."

Darren Wilson (knee) and Danny Wilde (away) will miss the weekend's fixtures but Mark Anderson is expected to shake off a thigh injury.

Horley Town ................0 Sandhurst Town ..........4

THE Sandhurst Fizzers put in one of their best performances of the season to stun high-flying Horley in their own backyard.

And the victory was made all the more impressive as it came just two days after Sandhurst had lost their energy draining combination cup semi-final against Molesey on penalties.

Manager Pete Browning was ecstatic after the game and couldn't praise his players highly enough for their efforts.

He said: "The lads were absolutely excellent, we had a lot of players missing and they were at full strength.

"To win like that was incredible really, everyone worked ever so hard. I was so impressed especially with the game coming so soon after Thursday's match.

"We got at them right from the start, our three lads up front didn't give their back four any time to settle.

"They wanted to play around with the ball but we kept hassling and catching them in possession, it was excellent to watch."

After a tight opening, the Sandhurst Fizzers went on the rampage in the first half, finding the net three times.

Pete Mulvaney put his side in front with a predatory finish from the edge of the six-yard box before adding a second soon after with a fine break-away goal.

Top scorer Mark Anderson then got in the act when he outpaced a static Horley backline before slotting home.

The 3-0 half-time lead was quickly added to after the re-start when Mulvaney fired home to complete his hat-trick and leave the home side stunned.

Sandhurst: Ewen, Bland, Roberts, Fairminer, Wilde, Hutchings, Nesbitt, Rowe (Levey), Stairs (Bartholomew), Mulvaney, Anderson.

* SANDHURST missed out on another cup final when they went out on penalties to Molesey last Thursday in the Combination Cup semi-final.

The defeat was hard to take as they led for much of the game only to concede an equaliser from the penalty spot in the last seconds of 12 minutes of injury time.

Manager Pete Browning said: "It was absolutely crazy, there was no way the referee could justify that amount of injury time.

"There was a couple of injuries and substitutions but not to that extent, it was ridiculous."

Until then the Sandhurst Fizzers had led since the first half when Mark Anderson netted but couldn't raise themselves to find a winner in extra-time.

And their heartbreak was complete when they lost the shoot-out 4-2.

New Neighbourhood Police Officer for the Sandhurst area

PC Vanessa Coxhill has taken over from PC Steve Smith, as Neighbourhood Police Officer in the Sandhurst area. PC Steve Smith is now at Bracknell Police station as a Local Intelligence Officer.

Vanessa joined Thames Valley Police in September 2002, where she spent 2½ years on operational shifts, before temporarily transferring to the Crime Intervention & Detections Team (CIDT) at Maidenhead when it was first set up. Following a year within CIDT, Vanessa moved to Sandhurst as a Neighbourhood Police Officer in April 2006.

Vanessa will be working alongside PC Duncan Reynolds in Sandhurst and Little Sandhurst, as part of the neighbourhood policing team. Sgt Graham Thorne said “Vanessa is going to be great asset to the team and we are all looking forward to working with her”.

Vanessa said: “My main priorities are to gain a local knowledge of the area I service and establish the priorities the community would like me to meet. I intend to tackle the problems with anti-social behaviour and youth disorder, and problems of the use of mini mopeds especially in residential areas. I will also provide community support and be a direct contact for the residents of the Sandhurst area to Thames Valley Police.”

Residents of Sandhurst and Little Sandhurst are encouraged to pop down to their local police office on Friday 28 April to the police beat surgery where they can also meet with their local neighbourhood policing team. Between 6pm and 8pm, officers will be on hand at the police point in the Sandhurst Memorial Park to speak to residents about community and policing issues.

Anyone who wishes to speak to the Sandhurst police team before the surgery can contact officers on 0845 8 505 505.

'Wheelie' Good News For Recycling At Oaklands Infant School, Crowthorne

Pupils at Oaklands Infant School in Crowthorne are planning a concerted effort at recycling after Wokingham District Council chairman Cllr Iain Brown ‘unveiled’ a new wheelie bin.

Visiting the Crowthorne school last week (Monday March 20) to celebrate over 1,000 tonnes of green household waste collected by the district council, the chairman was asked by staff and pupils to officially ‘open’ a new paper recycling bin. Secured for the school by the council’s procurement staff, as part of an initiative to encourage schools to recycle, the new wheelie bin is for paper only and will be collected by contractors SITA for recycling.

Crowthorne Oaklands Infant School head teacher Julie Sheppard said: “The children are delighted with our new bin. We’ve really been concentrating on recycling recently, with a talk by the council’s waste and recycling manager, joining the council to celebrate their success in green waste collection and now this new bin which the chairman kindly unveiled for us.

“Everyone is really keen to increase the amount we recycle, learn about the environment and help protect it for the future.”

Council chairman Cllr Iain Brown said: “I was thrilled to see all the children take such an interest in recycling. It bodes well for the future that we have a generation so excited about helping to protect the environment. I’m sure that the new bin will be a real boost to the school’s recycling aims.”

The council’s procurement team is encouraging all schools to recycle through waste contractors SITA. Around half of the district council’s schools now have dedicated paper recycling bins which are collected regularly by SITA for a small cost. SITA can keep track of the amount collected, so that schools are able to record how much they’ve recycled.

Schools wishing to find out more about dedicated recycling bins should contact contracts officer Matt Gooderham on (0118) 974 6230.

Warriors Fight Back Into Form against Crowthorne Cougars

Vectis Warriors had a lot to prove after two away defeats when they squared up to a home game against Crowthorne Cougars on Sunday.

The Warriors were smarting after losing two games to Team Underground 12-4 and Ferndown Falcons 8-3 and they knew it was time to put in a good performance against the Crowthorne Cougars.

Warriors started the stronger with Barry Downer making a quality pass through to Dean Brett to open the scoring, which was closely followed by two goals by Jonathan Cass, assisted by Michael Squibb and Adie Lusted.

The visitors then put the Warriors' defence under pressure and replied with two goals in two minutes to make it 3-2 to the Warriors at the end of the first period.

In the second period, the Warriors only scored once through Downer but conceded two, to finish 4-4 going into the final 20 minutes.

The Warriors came out fired up and scored two quick goals through Michael Palin and Lusted. Although the Crowthorne Cougars pulled one back, Squibb restored the Islanders' advantage.

However, Crowthorne Cougars scored twice in a minute to level again. The Warriors regrouped and put some great plays together and Palin scored three times with only one in reply to give them a 10-8 victory.
