Mayor shakes the Sandhurst bucket for SSAFA

The spirit of giving was in the air at The Meadows, Sandhurst when the Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest collected £425 for a good cause.

Cllr Mrs Gill Birch was at The Meadows in Sandhurst on the weekend (Saturday 8 December) to raise money for her charity the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA). The charity helps those who have served, or continue to serve, in the armed forces.

Helping out on the Sandhurst day were three local schools - Birch Hill Primary, Owlsmoor Primary and Easthampstead Park School. The schools added to the festive atmosphere by singing Christmas carols throughout the fundraiser.

Cllr Mrs Birch said: “The day was wet, cold and windy. However the three school choirs sung brilliantly and brought a warm Christmas spirit to the occasion.

“Many members of the public, as they were donating money to my charity, praised the children's singing, saying it had made their Christmas.

“The Owlsmoor Primary School brass band played Christmas carols and they too were absolutely delightful.

“Christmas is a time for giving and so I’m extremely grateful to everyone who gave money on the day to SSAFA Forces Help.”
