Number plates stolen from Sandhurst cars

Police are appealing for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for stealing the registration plates from cars in the College Town area of Sandhurst.

Overnight between Friday (15/5) and Saturday (16/5), Sandhurst police received six reports of number plates being removed from vehicles in the area. Most of the thefts involved rear number plates, some of which were found discarded nearby.

The thieves targeted a Toyota, a BMW and a Vauxhall Astra in Branksome Hill Road, a Citroen Saxo and a Seat Ibiza in College Road, and a Rover in Richmond Road, Sandhurst.

Margaret Weber, Neighbourhood Watch coordinator for Bracknell Forest local police area, said: “This is an unusual spate of thefts and we believe there must be somebody out there that knows who’s responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible on 0845 8 505 505. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“We advise motorists to park in a well-lit area if possible. They may wish to consider getting DVLA-approved theft-resistant number plates fitted. These are tested to make sure they either resist attempts to remove them for a minimum of three minutes, or they break apart and become unusable once removed.”
