Crowthorne CofE is a good school

Crowthorne Church of England (CofE) Primary School is a good school where pupils’ outstanding personal development and wellbeing are real strengths according to an inspector.

An Ofsted inspector visited the Bracknell Forest Council run school in May and the findings have now been published. The Crowthorne primary school in Dukes Ride has been rated as a grade two, good school.

Ofsted inspector George Rayner said in a letter to the Crowthorne school's pupils: “One of the very best things about your school is the way that you are growing up. The adults are very proud of you and care for you very well.

“Your headteacher really knows how to make your school even better. All of the other adults are helping her as well. We know that you will also continue to help.

“Well done to you all and very best wishes for the future.”

The Crowthorne report noted the findings listed below.

* This is a good school. Parents agree. They say their children are happy and that they make good progress.
* Pupils thoroughly enjoy coming to school and this is reflected in their outstanding behaviour, attitudes and willingness to join in with all that it offers.
* Pupils enthusiastically take part in activities in their local communities, for example, when they take part in celebrations at the local church.
* Effective teaching and learning, together with a good curriculum, help pupils to achieve well so that their overall standards are above average by the end of Year Six.
* The headteacher, ably supported by the deputy headteacher, is providing very good leadership.

The full inspection report can be viewed online at www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports.

In common with all Ofsted reports the inspectors identified areas which the school needs to improve. This includes increasing the rate of progress in mathematics and to improve the toys and other equipment in the Reception outdoor area.

Headteacher Barbara Gellatly said: “I am delighted Ofsted have recognised what a good school Crowthorne CofE is.

“The safety, wellbeing and personal development of the pupils at our school are of the upmost importance to myself and the staff.

"The items highlighted for improvement are areas we are currently working on and I look forward to welcoming Ofsted back for an inspection when the changes are in place.”

Cllr Alan Kendall, executive member for Crowthorne education, said: “I am pleased to see Crowthorne CofE get a grade two, good school rating.

“This Ofsted report shows there is dedicated, quality teaching in the school and I congratulate the headteacher and her team on this achievement.”
