Owlsmoor, Sandhurst ward elects new councillor

Bracknell Forest has welcomed a new borough councillor to Owlsmoor,Sandhurst ward.

Norman Bowers, 71, is already familiar with the workings of local democracy as he has been a member of Sandhurst Town Council for many years. He is now looking forward to bringing his interest and expertise in leisure and the environment to his new role. He will be working alongside Cllr David Worrall, following the sad death of the previous Owlsmoor ward councillor, Raymond Symonds, who passed away in December.

Cllr Bowers has lived in the borough since 1974. Before he retired, he spent many years in retail management and then worked with the Ministry of Defence.

He and his wife Margaret have two sons and two grandchildren. Cllr Bowers said: “My grandson and granddaughter both live nearby so my wife and I are very handy for babysitting.”

When not on babysitting duty or on Sandhurst council business Cllr Bowers enjoys watching sport and is an avid cricket fan.

Sandhurst Cllr Bowers said: “I’m looking forward to seeing what life is like at the borough council. I think we live in a great area, especially with so many parks and open spaces. I want to make sure than they are maintained to the high standards we have now.”
