A Bracknell Forest primary school in Sandhurst is celebrating after getting top marks from Ofsted inspectors.
In April, Ofsted visited St Michael’s CE Primary School in Sandhurst, and gave it an overall rating of one – outstanding, the highest rating possible.
The Sandhurst report said: This is an outstanding school where pupils enjoy learning, behave extremely well and reach high standards. The supportive and purposeful atmosphere, underpinned by the school’s Christian values, is seen at every turn. Relationships between adults and pupils are excellent and founded on an ethos of mutual respect. The school is held in high regard by parents.”
Amongst other things the report highlighted the flying start made by children in the Sandhurst Reception class, how well behaved the children were and the exciting teaching methods used. It was also noted how almost all pupils reach the expected standards, particularly in English, mathematics and science.
The Sandhurst report continues: Pupils’ academic progress and personal development move on apace due to an outstanding, innovative curriculum that thoroughly engages and excites them, good teaching which motivates them, and first-class care and support that ensures all groups flourish in a warm, safe and nurturing environment.”
Antoinette Butler-Willis, headteacher at the school, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the outstanding report by Ofsted, and are very pleased that the Ofsted inspector recognised the commitment of the staff and the achievements of our pupils."
Cllr Alan Kendall, executive member for Sandhurst education, added: St Michael’s CE Primary School provides outstanding teaching and they very much deserve their grade one rating. My congratulations go out to all the teachers, parents, governors and – most importantly – the pupils."
St Michael’s CE Primary School in Sandhurst is one of seven Bracknell Forest schools to be rated as outstanding.
Bob Welch, chief advisor for learning and achievement at Bracknell Forest Council, said: The team from Ofsted rightly recognised the achievements of the school and the values that underpin its success. We will be keen to develop further opportunities for the school to share its outstanding work with others."
